Children Making Music

London Taxidrivers' Fund for Underprivileged Children in conjunction with The London Charity Orchestra & Lewisham Music Service

Many children with disabilities, or who live in deprived areas, do not have the opportunity to learn to play musical instruments due to social or financial restrictions. As part of their 75th anniversary celebrations the London Taxidrivers’ Fund for Underprivileged Children has teamed up with the London Charity Orchestra to carry out some hands on music making. The LCO, founded by late taxi driver David Todhunter, is a registered charity made up of professional and amateur musicians all of which generously donate all of their time and energy at no cost, in order to help raise money for various charities.

Music

Together with the London Taxidrivers’ Fund for Underprivileged Children and The London Charity Orchestra we have encouraged 50 children from the Lewisham area to participate in what has proved to be a very exciting experience for all. The project is being run in conjunction with the Lewisham Music Service and will involve school children from eight schools in the Lewisham area. Two of the schools chosen to participate are special needs schools and most children will not have had access to music tuition before. There will be three Saturday morning workshops, in which LCO volunteers will work with the children on key music skills including conducting, composing and performance. This project is the first of many opportunities to enrich the lives of children with music.

If you would like to know more about the project or would like to help in any way please contact Michael Son Tel 01702 525776 Mobile 07710 388588, or the Orchestra’s project co-ordinator Margaret de Valois on 020 7265 8439. Email:
